DESCRIPTION

Its focus is on providing stable, high-quality rehearsal facilities on one site for bands and musicians, while playing an active role in Oslo’s wider cultural ecosystem. It offers flexible rental agreements, ranging from 10 hours a month to permanent 24/7 access. The facility is home to a creative community of around 1,300 musicians across 330 bands. Its aim is to provide a welcoming and inspiring environment where musicians can meet, exchange ideas, access advice and discover new opportunities.

At the heart of the facility is a communal “living room”, which serves multiple purposes as a social meeting place, café, office, intimate concert venue and space for conferences, courses and workshops.

Since its establishment, it has grown into one of Norway’s largest music production hubs, supported by funding from Kulturrom, Norway’s national grant scheme for cultural spaces. Between 2012 and 2026, it received three awards totalling £871,000.

Its rehearsal rooms are soundproofed, acoustically treated for band practice and equipped with good ventilation. Flexible rental arrangements allow musicians to use the facilities for as long as they need.

The organisation sees itself as a support partner for its users, helping them develop their skills, knowledge and professional networks. It delivers courses and workshops in collaboration with a range of music industry partners. Activities have included sessions on technical riders and stage plots, building a guitar distortion pedal, working safely in high-noise environments and developing more sustainable cultural spaces.

The living room also hosts intimate concerts and listening parties. Alongside these activities, the organisation runs a programme to collect used and defective musical equipment, repair it and make it available for young people to borrow free of charge.

In 2026, it worked with the consultancy Sound Diplomacy to undertake a comprehensive study of rehearsal communities and cultural infrastructure.

As an increasingly significant cultural organisation, it places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, equality, inclusion and diversity.
